“I like people with style,” says historic car dealer, racer and former McLaren director David Clark. “The way someone dresses, the way he conducts himself in life – that’s what I call style.”

At his “Aladdin’s cave”, where he keeps his enviable collection of cars, David expands on his own style choices. “All the motorcycle greats have been Belstaff ambassadors, or have worn Belstaff. It makes me feel a little bit cool.”

This self-effacing comment shows that it’s more than his Plaistow boots keeping David’s feet on the floor. In truth, he’s done a good enough job of securing his place on the ‘cool’ list with a lifetime of racing and adventuring.

“I like adventure,” he states, before adding: “I had a friend call me – he said we should do a rally race called the Panamericana, it was very high speed, but exciting.”

Kitted out in his Trialmaster Panther, David shows no signs of slowing down yet. “The next adventure is a bit crazy,” he says, clearly relishing the prospect. “It’s the Baja 1000, which is a race through the desert on the Baja peninsula over five days. That’s the next step.”

It’s a step David’s well equipped to take.
