“Belstaff makes me feel confident. It gives you that sense, when you walk into a room and you’re wearing Belstaff – I like that.”

“Family really inspires me in everyday life,” says Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett. “They’re quite critical – they’re not overly impressed when I cook, because they’re all very good cooks.” This self-effacing summary of family life, delivered with a wry smile, is, one suspects, an attitude that served Angela very well while she learnt her trade under Gordon Ramsay.”

She’s become well-used to pressure since then. Her Michelin-starred restaurant, Murano in London’s Mayfair, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary, having opened just as the credit crunch hit. “Every day you go to sleep knowing you’ve got to pay people at the end of the month, so it’s a constant. But that’s quite adventurous – it’s quite ballsy,” she says, with a comfortable confidence.

The same easy assurance appears when conversation turns to style. “Belstaff makes me feel confident,” Angela says. “It gives you that sense, when you walk into a room and you’re wearing Belstaff – I like that.”
