MODERN ADVENTURERS TALK TO BELSTAFF ABOUT THEIR PERSONAL JOURNEYSPORTRAITS BY RENOWNED BRITISH PHOTOGRAPHER DAVID BURTON
LEVISON WOOD ON ARABIA, LEGACY AND THE NEW LEVISON FIELDMASTER
“I’ve been involved in helping to design this special edition Fieldmaster jacket,” He says “I’ve worn my Belstaff jacket in every kind of environment...”
Levison Wood is not a man you can get to stand still for long. Having just returned from his most challenging, and dangerous, expedition to date – a 5,000-mile circumnavigation of the Arabian peninsula – he was soon off again visiting Nepal on behalf of the Gurkha Welfare Trust. Time off is for other people, it seems…
“I also took it as an opportunity to take a motorbike around and explore some of the magic of the Himalayas,” he says. Clearly, the impulse for adventure is in the blood.
“I’ve always loved travelling, ever since I was a kid,” Levison recalls. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve been exploring the world.” His heroes were as you would expect: “Livingston, Burton, Shackleton and Scott. And what was as important for them then as it is for me today,” he continues, “is making sure that you’ve got reliable kit that also looks good.”
Reliable kit is something that matters deeply to Levison. So much so that he’s undertaken another adventure – this time with Belstaff by his side.
“I’ve been involved in helping to design this special edition Fieldmaster jacket,” He says “I’ve worn my Belstaff jacket in every kind of environment, from jungles to deserts to mountaintops. That’s what Belstaff has right – these jackets are durable and robust… you can wear them anywhere.”
And Levison knows just how important that adaptability is. His last journey to the Arabian Peninsula took him from the highlands of northern Iraq through Syria, Yemen and Saudi Arabia all the way to the shores of the Mediterranean in Lebanon.
Levison has channelled his experience into a Fieldmaster in a versatile, water-repellent cotton twill that wicks sweat away from the body and an augmented utility pocket, with pleating and ingenious stitch detailing. This sits alongside the storm-proof bellows pockets and adjustable mandarin collar and sees an old classic embark on a brand new adventure. “It's a legacy I feel very proud to be involved with.”
And it’s not the only thing that Levison is keen to share with the wider world. “I see my mission as inspiring the next generation of travellers,” he says. That’s a legacy we feel very proud to be involved with.
